10 miles, Olympics and Future Fun

So as some of you know, Brock and I have been training for a May 1st 10 mile run to prepare us for our honeymoon swimsuit time and also to get us going for our ultimate goal of a half marathon. We'd been doing pretty well going up a mile a week in our long runs and doing at least 2 shorter runs during the week. Our top mileage last week was 7 weeks (longer than Brock had ever done!) and we were proud and prepared to hit the 8 miles for this weekend until...Brock hurt his knee in our sand volleyball game on Sunday. Armed with my knee evaluation packet and limited student PT skills I tried to assess him on Monday. When the swelling and "tight" feeling hadn't gone down by Thursday, I did some more tests and asked my professors. They gave me some probably causes and all of them resulted in the fact that in no way was he running any time soon let alone 10 miles. :( Sad news too cause we were having fun spending that time together. You are probably thinking, he's out, but you're still fine...and while that is true, there is no way I am running more than 3 miles by myself! It is just not fun! So now we're going to start walking instead of running and doing some swimming at the gym and hopefully we'll be able to get back on track in a month or two.

Back before the knee injury, we got the opportunity to go down with several of my classmates and their significant others to San Antonio and play in a day of PT Olympics where all the PT schools in Texas get together and compete in different sports events over the course of the day. We took 2nd place and were the dodgeball champions! And came in 2nd place for softball! Now this is a pretty great feat for our school becuase the other programs actually held try-outs and have year round intermural teams, where we just randomly signed up to have fun. It was a great weekend and we had a lot of fun and got some sun!

On a fun note, we are now officially less than a month (27 days) from leaving for our honeymoon!!! YAY! We've been slowly collecting supplies (aka new clothes and accessories) and planning our different adventures! We're so excited for it to actually get here!

Another note, I have officially received my clinical placements for this summer and fall and will thankfully be staying here in Dallas! It wasn't looking so great for me staying in Dallas for the summer for awhile so we are very thankful that we will be together for the majority of our first year of marriage instead of spending 7 or more weeks apart. I am very ready to get out into the clinic and put all this head knowledge into practice and actually get some experience with real patients! YAY for practicing PT!
